"I did not pre-plan this painting in the same way as I do most of my paintings. I was visiting one of my favourite spots in Mallorca when suddenly out of nowhere, we had a tremendous thunderstorm and as it cleared, I caught a glimpse of the sun setting. I grabbed my camera and took about 20 photographic studies.
This painting is a composition using those studies. The tricky bit was getting the tones of the silhouetted clouds right. This painting is an original oil on canvas, painted using old traditional layered glazing techniques to enhance depth in the colours."
