Porto d'Andratx is not a place I visit often, but it certainly has made an impression on me. The main attraction is it's stunning setting, nestled amongst the ragged mountains that flow effortlessly right down to the sea enveloping the harbour. The impact at sunset is mesmerising, and most certainly one for my collection. In this oil on canvas I attempted to capture the distances involved in the view across the harbour entrance gazing out to sea. In fact I was so captivated by the relationship between the distant clouds on the horizon as they merge seamlessly with the sea, that I almost forgot I was depicting an actual location.
This original oil on canvas, as with all my paintings, was painted using the well tried and tested glazing techniques of the old masters to achieve translucency.
