"I have visited Portocolom many times and have always been attracted to the vastness of this natural inlet located on the east coast of Mallorca, approximately eight kilometres north of Cala d'Or. The town is named after Christopher Columbus. Although it is disputed, it is said to have been his birthplace.
This oil on canvas painting captures the natural harbour at sunset. Portocolom was famous in years past for it's wine trade. Adding the glazes and detail took me over 5 months to paint. These layered glazing techniques are seldom used these days due to their time consuming applications."
