Stunning Palma city is the largest city of the Balearic Islands in Spain. It is located on the south coast of Mallorca on the Bay of Palma. It is home to more than half of Mallorca's population and has for many years been a big tourist attraction. Famed for its ancient buildings some of which have survived since it was originally founded as a Roman camp upon the remains of a Talaiotic settlement. After a period of conquest and reconquest the city was finally colonised by the Moors who called it Medina Mayurqa and latterly in the 13th century by King James the 1st of Aragon.

Although I'm not that fond of the hustle and bustle of city life, preferring instead the tranquillity that country life has to offer, in Palma's case, there is a certain charm that is attractive and definitely worth a visit or two.

The ''piece de resistance'' most definitely are the sunsets that cast the city in a silhouette that has to be seen to be believed.

As with all my pictures, I have applied layers of paint suspended in a glaze in order to enhance the translucent effect. This is an old tried and tested method of enhancing the pigments that has been used for centuries by the old masters.
