This painting has a very special significance to me. It represents my completion in the journey of recovery.
When I was a very young child back in Colombia, I took to reading a children's illustrated Bible. Initially, I think, it was because of the illustrations. I loved the big battle scenes of the old testament. One of my favourite stories was that of Samson. To a little boy immersed in Marvel comics most of the time, he was like Superman.
My favourite Biblical quotation comes from the riddle and secret of his strength.
''Out of the strong came forth sweetness''
This saying conveys a broader spiritual life lesson. Good from evil, signifying that something good can rise from a source that is initially dangerous, difficult or harmful.
Here in this painting I have come from the dark days of depression in to the light. I can now see clearly the path in front of me. I have emerged through the dreadful memories of my childhood experiences, to become a force for good, contrasting directly with the heritage my Biological father left the world.
