The cave systems on the paradise island of Mallorca are immense and attract alot of tourists to the island. I wanted, however, to convey a cave system that is perhaps less famous and not quite so well known.
The key to this painting is the symbolic reference to my recovery from severe depression after the traumas of my earlier life and in particular, coming to terms with my Colombian heritage.
I dwelt in the darkness of the cave for many years, but now as my work evolves my life has also moved on and I can see the light at the end of the "tunnel".
I used the technique of pure palette knife painting to help me achieve the ruggedness of the natural rock formations.
I'm reminded of the biblical scripture in the secret to Samson's strength. "Out of the strong came forth sweetness"
